Join LIRT for a discussion on practical approaches using adult learning theories in the development of effective library instruction. Keynote speaker, Dr. Phyllis Bebko, , addresses adult learning theories while librarians, Judi DeLisle, and Deborah Anderson, , Palm Bay Campus, share their experiences and advice in developing exciting and creative instruction programs for non-traditional students.

Deborah Anderson



Deborah Anderson is an Assistant Professor/Librarian at the . She oversees the operation of this branch campus library and participates in college-wide technology and information literacy initiatives. Her previous positions include Head of Reference and Interim Library Director at the Florida Institute of Technology, Evans Library (1981-1996). During her tenure at the Florida Institute of Technology she received the Faculty Service Award. In addition to her work as a librarian, Deborah has taught as an adjunct faculty member in the graduate program for the University of South Florida, School of Library and Information Science. In 2001 her library design and coordination efforts culminated in Brevard Community College's opening of their newest branch library at the Palm Bay campus. This state-of-the-art library features a wireless network and laptop checkout to students. Most recently she has been involved in the development of and the assessment of Brevard Commuity College's information literacy programs.

Phyllis Bebko, Ed.D.



As Assistant Vice President for Broward Operations at , Dr. Phyllis Bebko manages the day-to-day use, maintenance, renovation, and security of facilities at the Dania Beach, Davie and Fort Lauderdale locations. She also works closely with the university's partner, Broward Community College and chairs the Governance and Policy Advisory Committee of the FAU/BCC University/College Library serving more than 20,000 students on the Davie campus. Most of her career has been in human resources development, designing and implementing training for non-profit and governmental organizations across the United States. She is on the Steering Committee of the Coordinating Council of Broward and the Education Committee of Broward Alliance. She earned a doctorate in Educational Administration with an emphasis in Adult and Community Education and is certified in both Distance Learning Instruction and Distance Learning Administration.

Judi DeLisle

Judi DeLisle has been a reference librarian at for thirty years. Her responsibilities include reference, instruction-in house and online, and web page development. Her favorite student group consists of older women. Judi is a frequent presenter on instruction as well as other topics, at the Florida Library Association annual convention. She is the co-author, with Dr. Charles Killinger of the 1998-1999 web supplement to The Western Perspective: A History of Civilization in the West by Philip Cannistraro and John Reich. Judi will be retiring in December, but will not give up the profession completely. She will continue to be a part time presence at Valencia Community College.
