In their article, Schmidt, Shelburne and Vess explored the use of librarians' existing collection development skills as
applied to development and management of materials collected from the Internet. They concluded that many of the skills
collection development librarians use for print can be transferred to Web-based materials. In the course of their
research for this case study - hate literature on the web - they noted that many of the materials on this topic are
currently only available for purchase via the Internet. In light of their findings, libraries may need to rethink their
collecting processes and make plans for the inclusion and preservation of Web-based materials in their collections.
