United for Libraries' January Monthly Member Forum will teach on 'Recruiting Younger Board Members for Trustees, Friends, and Foundations'

EXTON, Pennsylvania — United for Libraries is hosting a live webinar for members, “Recruiting Younger Board Members for Trustees, Friends, and Foundations,” on Wednesday, Jan.8 at 2 p.m. Eastern Time. Madeline Jarvis of Marion (Iowa) Public Library and Tess Wilson of the National Network of Libraries of Medicine, Middle Atlantic Region, will lead the webinar.

The webinar will focus on how to recruit younger members to Trustee, Friends, and Foundation boards. Attendees will learn tips for engaging and retaining Millennials and other younger generations, including practical strategies for identifying and recruiting the right millennials to serve, and for adapting board cultures to engage and retain them.

The live session and its recording are free for United for Libraries members (including Statewide Group Members). Madeline Jarvis is the Adult and Information Services Manager at the Marion (IA) Public Library. She and her team cultivate collections, services, and partnerships to serve the Marion community. She is passionate about identifying and eliminating barriers to resources for her patrons; helping the library serve as a catalyst for community development; and finding the perfect slice of pizza.

Tess Wilson is the Community Engagement Coordinator for the National Network of Libraries of Medicine, Middle Atlantic Region. She earned a BA in English from Washburn University, an MFA in creative writing from Chatham University, and an MA in library and information science from the University of Pittsburgh.

United for Libraries Monthly Member Forums Members are invited to a monthly forum on the second Wednesday of each month at 2 p.m. Eastern Time. All sessions will be recorded and posted in the members-only zones of the United for Libraries website. Each month’s session will cover a hot topic of interest to Trustees, Friends and/or Foundations. A guest speaker will share highlights and information about the month's topic, followed by a Q&A with the speaker. At the half-hour mark, the format will switch to an open discussion among webinar participants. Sessions are open to all personal and group members of United for Libraries.
