United for Libraries December Monthly Member Forum to educate Trustees, Friends and Foundations on Intellectual Freedom

EXTON, Pennsylvania — United for Libraries is hosting a live webinar for members, “Intellectual Freedom: What Trustees, Friends, and Foundations Need to Know,” on Wednesday, Dec. 11th at 2 p.m. Eastern Time. Kristin Pekoll, assistant director at ALA’s Office for Intellectual Freedom, will lead the webinar.

The live session and its recording are free for United for Libraries members (including Statewide Group Members). To register, United for Libraries members should login to the members-only zones: , , or for Statewide Group Members (those in Delaware, Maryland, Michigan, Nebraska, South Carolina, South Dakota and Texas). Kristin Pekoll of ALA’s Office for Intellectual Freedom will discuss what library Trustees, Friends, and Foundations need to know to defend intellectual freedom throughout the library. Attendees will learn what the role of each group should be in the event of a program or material challenge, and how to support the library in such cases.

Kristin Pekoll is Assistant Director of the ¾«¶«´«Ã½’s Office for Intellectual Freedom (OIF). She is dedicated to promoting the right to read and providing education about intellectual freedom and the First Amendment. She is the author of "," published by ¾«¶«´«Ã½Editions in 2019. Kristin shines a light on current challenges in libraries and schools and advocates for access to information through blogs, social media and presentations. As a former public librarian, she is most passionate about supporting teachers and librarians on the front lines.

United for Libraries Monthly Member Forums Members are invited to a monthly forum on the second Wednesday of each month at 2 p.m. Eastern Time. All sessions will be recorded and posted in the members-only zones of the United for Libraries website. Each month’s session will cover a hot topic of interest to Trustees, Friends and/or Foundations. A guest speaker will share highlights and information about the month's topic, followed by a Q&A with the speaker. At the half-hour mark, the format will switch to an open discussion among webinar participants. Sessions are open to all personal and group members of United for Libraries.
