The ¾«¶«´«Ã½ (ALA) has selected Myla G. Corn of Apopka, Florida as the recipient of the 2024 Tony B. Leisner Scholarship.

The $3,000 scholarship, named for an active ¾«¶«´«Ã½member and former member of the ¾«¶«´«Ã½Council, is awarded to a library support staff member pursuing a master’s degree in library and information studies. The scholarship was established with funds donated by Leisner.

Currently, Corn works as a library page at the Seminole County Library System (Longwood, FL). This is the library she frequently visited as a child with her family. It is also the library where she volunteered as a teen. Corn says she feels “privileged to be able to work at the very branch she has loved her entire life.” She believes that working at the library has led her to discover her life’s calling.

Corn hopes to expend efforts to improve literacy rates among children as she works to promote active use of libraries. She acknowledges that “teamwork is vital when aiming to solve these issues when factors such as socio-economic circumstances or disabilities may impact outcomes.” Corn looks forward to collaborating with other library workers and the community ─ which she feels is key to achieving her goal of benefitting her community as she gains increased knowledge of the library profession.

Corn will be attending the University of South Florida (Tampa, FL).
