The ¾«¶«´«Ã½ (ALA) is pleased to announce the selection of Georgina Broyles of Chesterfield, Michigan as the 2023 Tom and Roberta Drewes Scholarship recipient.

The $3,000 scholarship is awarded to a library support staff worker who is pursuing a master’s degree in library and information science.

Brolyes says that she is grateful to have begun her library career as a support staff member. She recalls being hired as a circulation assistant at the same public library that she frequented as a child. Broyles said she “spent a large portion of her childhood within the walls of many different libraries,” which has given her “an appreciation of the role libraries play as information hubs and lively community centers.” She commented, “What I did not expect was that working in a public library would change the course of my life.”

Working in a variety of areas within several public libraries has helped Broyles realize that “library work fulfills every wish she has for a career.” Currently, Broyles works as a youth and teen library assistant at MacDonald Public Library (New Baltimore, MI). She says, “the work isn’t always easy, but it has always been worth it.” She is excited to start each day working at the library. Broyles’ goal is to continue connecting patrons with the resources that fit their information needs and eventually become a director of a public library.

Broyles will attend the University of Michigan.
