Alemu is Cataloging and Metadata Librarian at Solent University, where he manages a team of catalogers with responsibility for providing accurate and usable metadata for the university. Also author of “An Emergent Theory of Digital Library Metadata: Enrich then Filter,” he has published more than 20 peer-reviewed articles on metadata, digital libraries, and Web 2.0 technologies. He served as a member of IFLA's Linked Data Technical Sub-Committee (LIDATEC) and is an editorial board member of the Journal of Librarianship and Information Science, International Journal of Metadata, Semantics and Ontologies, and Journal of Digital Library Perspectives. As an honorary tutor at the Centre for Archives and Information Studies (CAIS) at the University of Dundee, he also teaches a module on metadata standards and information taxonomies.
