Marketing the 21^st Century Library

Four-week asynchronous course beginning on Monday, September 12, 2022

During this four-week course, participants will learn marketing and promotions that can better serve our patrons in the 21st century and improve awareness and regard for the profession. The course designed for MLS candidates, graduates, librarians, and paraprofessionals is unique as it succinctly outlines the differences between marketing plans which are strategic and promotion plan, which are reactive.

The instructor, Debra Lucas-Alfieri, will lead students in creating a marketing plan skeleton and assist them in planning using the TIPR method (Think, Investigate, Plan and React).

Ensuring Accessibility in Discovery: EEAAP forms and Alternative Access

90-minute live webinar scheduled for Wednesday, September 21, 2022

The pandemic helped to emphasize how important online access to resources are to user who have no other way of obtaining library materials. However, materials must be accessible for all users, including those with disabilities.

EEAAPs (Equally Effective Alternative Access Plans) are an effective means of ensuring that there are alternative procedures in place that will enable library users with physical or visual disability to access materials. This 90-minute webinar will describe how the process of completing an EEAAP encourages collaboration across library units, provides valuable feedback for vendors, and provides a level of assurance that library patrons with physical or visual disabilities are able to access online resources.

Two speakers from the Northwestern University Libraries and two speakers from Boise State University will present on their design and implementation of EEAAPs for their respective libraries, allowing time for discussion and questions.

Reference Interview 101

Six-week asynchronous course beginning on Monday October 3, 2022

A comprehensive six-week asynchronous course tailored for support staff, library technicians, newly hired reference librarians and those librarians who want to brush up on their interview skills. This course will focus on the methods of evaluating reference service, behavioral aspects of reference service, and the different types of questions that can be used to help patrons identify what they need. Introductory in nature, using images and text, this in-depth educational approach lead by instructor David Tyckoson, covers everything from the approachability of the librarians to how to follow up with patrons.
