The ¾«¶«´«Ã½ and SAGE are pleased to announce Marco Lanier of Brooklyn, New York as the recipient of the 2022 Peter Lyman Memorial/SAGE Scholarship in New Media.

Currently, Lanier works as a records management project assistant for Advance Publications, Inc. while also volunteering as a program coordinator and archivist for the Museum of Reclaimed Urban Space as well as doing collections management and programming at Interference Archive (all of New York).

Through an exploration of initiatives that preserve and share records from Yugoslavian wars, Lanier remarks that he “observed the potential for libraries, museums, and archives to work towards accessibility, cultural preservation, and social cohesion. This capacity to operate as sites of liberation rather than erasure illustrates the values driving his pursuit of information science.”

Lanier says he “looks forward to actively participating in the foundational role that information sciences and new media will play as the future unfolds.”

Lanier will be attending Simmons University (Boston, Mass.).

The Peter Lyman Memorial/SAGE Scholarship in New Media was created in memory of Peter Lyman, former university librarian and professor emeritus of the School of information at the University of California, Berkeley. Lyman’s research focused on online information, ethnographic analyses of online social relationships and communities, and bringing university librarians into the digital era. He was one of the first scholars to work with computer companies to design information technology appropriate for research and teaching.
