The ¾«¶«´«Ã½ (ALA) is pleased to announce the selection of Bishop A. Clarke of Richmond, Virginia as the 2022 Century Scholarship recipient.

The $2,500 scholarship funds services or accommodation for a library school student with disabilities admitted to an ALA-accredited library program.

Clarke currently works as a library assistant at the Chesterfield County Public Library (Virginia). Clarke enjoys the work and comments, “Having the chance to help the public take control of their literary and digital lives is incredibly fulfilling.” A point of professional pride for Clarke was the development of the New Voices, New Worlds initiative where book displays highlighting science fiction works by underrepresented authors resulted in a nearly 240% increase in circulation of science fiction works. The impact of the initiative affirmed his belief that “getting more people to the table requires making sure that everyone knows they have a seat.”

Clarke will be attending Old Dominion University (Norfolk, VA).
