CHICAGO – Tools are now available to help communities nationwide celebrate the contributions of libraries and library professionals during National Library Week, April 3 – 9, 2022.

Held each April by the ¾«¶«´«Ã½ (ALA) and libraries of all types across the country, the annual celebration highlights the valuable role libraries, librarians and library workers play in transforming lives and strengthening communities through education, technology, information access and more.

¾«¶«´«Ã½is offering resources to help libraries and the public promote this year’s National Library Week theme of “Connect with Your Library.” Free materials in both English and Spanish can be found on the , including PSA scripts, a proclamation, mini-posters, a coloring page and a sample press release.

Also available on the website are downloadable digital graphics featuring Emmy-nominated and Spirit Award-winning actress, comedian, and legendary Saturday Night Live cast member Molly Shannon, who is serving as the 2022 National Library Week Honorary Chair. Customizable Canva templates to promote library resources or programs are available as well.

As part of the celebration, on Monday, April 4, ¾«¶«´«Ã½will release the State of America's Libraries Report, including the Top Ten Frequently Challenged Books of 2021.

Tuesday, April 5, will mark National Library Workers Day, a day for library staff, users, administrators and Friends groups to recognize the valuable contributions made by all library workers.

The contributions of our nation's library professionals who meet their patrons where they are – whether a bookmobile stop at a local elementary school, services provided to community homes, or library pop-ups at community gatherings – will be recognized on National Library Outreach Day, held Wednesday, April 6.

Library advocates across the country will rally on Thursday, April 7, for Take Action for Libraries Day by calling on elected officials to support libraries with robust federal funding and by spreading the word about how libraries help communities succeed and thrive.
