Core Classroom: Hearing the Story: Creating an Oral History Project

¾«¶«´«Ã½

CHICAGO—Storytelling is an important way to preserve the history of a community and/or culture. The human voice can convey so much more than the written word, so oral histories are a good way to preserve a community, family, or history of an important event. People have differing views about events and capturing the viewpoints through recording their stories is something that libraries have been doing for many years. Learn how you too can save history through oral history. Join Core: Leadership, Infrastructure, Futures this fall for the Core Classroom course "Hearing the Story: Creating an Oral History Project", and explore the process of creating an oral history project. Starting with the interview process, going through all the steps involved with processing, and talking about the finished product, this course outlines everything from the process side to the technological side. By the end of the course, participants will be able to devise interview questions, use different forms of technology to interview, log interviews, and create and assign controlled vocabulary.
