CHICAGO—Core: Leadership, Infrastructure, Futures is pleased to announce that Victoria Kowanetz has been selected as a Core Emerging Leader (EL). Kowanetz is the Assistant Community Library Manager at Queens Public Library (QPL) at Poppenhusen in College Point, N.Y. where she began her library career as a children’s librarian.

During the three years she’s been at the Queens Public Library, Kowanetz has been involved with various QPL committees, including the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Committee and the President's Council for Racial Equity. She has served as co-chair of the QPL Collections Committee of the President's Council for Racial Equity and is an active member of the New York Library Association (NYLA) where she is a member-at-large for the Ethnic Services Round Table. In addition, Kowanetz is the current chair of the ¾«¶«´«Ã½ (ALA) New Members Round Table (NMRT) Governance Committee, a member of the NMRT Social Committee, and the liaison for the NMRT to the Intellectual Freedom Committee and the IF Privacy Subcommittee.

"I am honored to be selected to participate in the 2022 Class of ¾«¶«´«Ã½Emerging Leaders,” states Kowanetz. “I look forward to collaborating with my colleagues and engaging in work that will not only benefit ALA, but the profession as a whole."

One of 49 library workers chosen from across the U.S. and Canada, Kowanetz will participate in project planning work groups, network with peers, gain an inside look into the ¾«¶«´«Ã½structure, and have an opportunity to serve the profession in a leadership capacity. Following a kickoff session at the ¾«¶«´«Ã½LibLearnX virtual event, the program will continue in an online learning and networking environment for six months, culminating in a presentation of the groups' work at the 2022 ¾«¶«´«Ã½Annual Conference in Washington D.C. this June. Core is sponsoring three Emerging Leaders for 2022. Learn more about the ¾«¶«´«Ã½Emerging Leaders Program.
