The Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC), a division of the ¾«¶«´«Ã½ (ALA), announced Hyunjin Han of the Mandel Public Library, in West Palm Beach, FL as its representative in the 2022 Emerging Leader program.

Hyunjin Han is a Children’s Librarian at the Mandel Public Library where she supports the collection of materials and program development and implementation for youth. In 2016, she graduated with her Masters of Library and Information Science (MLIS) from Emporia University and has been the recipient of numerous grants, including a 2020 Dollar General Summer Reading Grant and a 2019 Google Library Ready to Code Minigrant. Additionally, she recently served on ALSC’s 2021 Newbery Committee.

“I believe the role of the library in the fields of equity, diversity, and inclusion is in being a clear reflection of the community we serve, and in being a bridge among diverse communities through our collection and programs,” said Han. “I hope to gain more confidence as a part of future leadership in library organizations and develop more effective leadership skills through the Emerging Leaders program.”

We look forward to seeing how her journey through the Emerging Leaders program shapes her work within the profession and our organization."

As ALSC’s representative for the 2022 Emerging Leader program, Han will attend the 2022 Virtual LibLearnX, as well as the 2022 ¾«¶«´«Ã½Annual Conference in Washington, DC.

The Emerging Leaders program enables newer librarians from across the country to participate in workgroups, network with peers, gain an inside look into ALA's structure and have an opportunity to serve the profession in a leadership capacity. Emerging Leaders receive up to $1,000 each to participate in the LibLearnX and Annual Conference, and each participant is expected to provide years of service to ¾«¶«´«Ã½or one of its units.
