Explore Transformational Change in University Libraries due to COVID-19, a Core webinar, on March 2, 2021

CHICAGO—At the University of Oregon (UO), the dramatic changes required by the COVID-19 crisis offered UO Libraries an unprecedented opportunity to transform, throw out decades of habits and workflows, and break down silos and internal communication barriers. Prior to the campus closure, UO Libraries was a traditional library system focused on high-touch, in-person services. The rapid switch to predominantly remote work highlighted many organizational complications. In addition, the university considered the Libraries' mission critical, so many library staff employees continued working onsite. As a result, the organization needed to facilitate a hybrid workforce.

On Tuesday, March 2, join technology, e-learning, subject specialist and administrative staff from the University of Oregon Libraries for a discussion on organizational change through collaborations created during the pandemic. Presenters will discuss the work that remains to be done, ongoing gaps in organizational knowledge and continuing barriers to change. Participants will reflect on their own institutional experience during the crisis, including how the organization changed or did not change because of the shutdown and how the organization pivoted to a virtual organization. Participants will also be able to identify opportunities in their own institutions to create new forums which can move an organization to overcome its barriers.
