CHICAGO — The uncertainty of the Covid-19 pandemic and the dislocations it has wrought are raising many new questions about the design, operations and sustainability of library buildings. What does this mean for the future of library buildings?

The Library Leadership and Management Association (LLAMA) will present a free webinar: “What does sustainability mean today in the era of Covid-19?” on Tuesday, June 23, at 1:30-3:00 pm CT. In this webinar, four professional designers with expertise ranging from public policy, sustainability consulting, engineering, and architecture, will share both their approaches to sustainable building design as well as their preliminary thoughts about what libraries should do today and going forward in response to the pandemic.

Panelists will discuss:

• What trade-offs are there between long-term goals and short-term needs?
• Is this a good time to make modifications to your buildings?
• Is the rapid increase in the use of electronic communication tools like Zoom here to stay?
• What implications does this have for libraries?
• How can libraries keep their patrons safe?

This webinar addresses several of including: change management, problem solving, forward thinking, and critical thinking.

Who Should Attend: Leadership and staff responsible for making decisions about the performance of their facilities with respect to energy use, materials purchasing, public health and welfare, as well as those responsible for creating budgets for buildings. This will be especially useful for libraries preparing to undertake renovations or other building projects
