PLA announces webinars on book clubs for millennials, trauma-informed approach to library service

CHICAGO – Today, the Public Library Association (PLA) announced two webinars to take place in November.
The first, , will take place Thursday, Nov. 14, from 1–2 p.m. Central Time. In this webinar, representatives of West Palm Beach (FL) Public Library’s book club for millennials—cleverly titled “Millennials Ruin Book Club”—will discuss how to start a book club for millennials, how to get them through the door, and how to keep them coming back. It will cover all stages of book club management, including planning, marketing, facilitating and sustainability. The presenters will discuss books clubs in non-traditional formats and settings—including the “no-required-book” model—and hosting the club outside the library walls, all with the goal of engaging an age group that doesn’t often engage with library programs. .
The second, , will take place Monday, Nov. 18, from 1–2 p.m. Central Time. The trauma-informed approach to library service presumes that every person who walks through your library's doors has experienced some degree of trauma or stress in their lifetime. In this webinar, members of the , all of whom are social workers in public libraries, will discuss how following a trauma-informed approach can relieve the pressure that results from managing difficult situations while creating an environment of collaboration and trust at the library. .
For each webinar, the cost is $43 for PLA personal members, $59 for nonmembers, and $129 for groups.* Registration will close at 4:30 p.m. Central Time the day before the webinar.
