Polls now open in 2019 PLA Election

CHICAGO -- The voting period has begun in the Public Library Association's (PLA) . Members will have an opportunity to elect three new directors to the and weigh in on an important .

Six nominees will stand for three positions on the board: PLA President and two Director-at-Large seats. These are crucial leadership roles that will guide PLA into the next several years, ensuring the organization delivers on its core purpose to strengthen public libraries and their contribution to the communities they serve. The member elected in each race will serve a three-year term from June 2019 through June 2022.

Also on the ballot for the 2019 Election is a which proposes adding a new position, Fiscal Officer, to the PLA Board. The Fiscal Officer would also serve as chair of the and as liaison to the ¾«¶«´«Ã½ . If the ballot measure is approved, the first fiscal officer will be appointed by the immediate past-president to a three-year term beginning July 2019.

To be eligible to vote, individuals must be members in good standing of ¾«¶«´«Ã½as well as applicable divisions and round tables as of Jan. 31, 2019. Eligible PLA members will receive their voting credentials, instructions and unique ballot URL by email between Mar. 11 and 13. Any individual whose email bounces back will be sent a letter on Mar. 18, through the U.S. Postal Service, containing their voting credentials. The polls will remain open through Wednesday, Apr. 3, and the election results will be announced on Wednesday, Apr. 10.
