PLA proposes adding Fiscal Officer position to Board of Directors

Members to vote on proposal in 2019 PLA Election

CHICAGO – At its fall 2018 meeting, the Public Library Association (PLA) Board of Directors authorized the addition of a to appear on the ballot in the 2019 PLA Election. The measure proposes to add a new position, Fiscal Officer, to the , thereby increasing the Board’s size from ten directors to eleven. Because the creation of this position would alter the organization’s bylaws, it requires approval by the majority of voting members.

“PLA has been quite successful in recent years in securing sustainable funding sources and increasing organizational capacity,” explains PLA President Monique le Conge Ziesenhenne, PhD. “We, as a board, feel that PLA’s increasing financial opportunities and responsibilities necessitate a greater level of oversight and attention to fiscal matters as we move forward into the next decade.”

If the ballot measure is approved, the first fiscal officer will be appointed by the immediate past-president to a three-year term beginning July 2019. The Fiscal Officer will join the board of directors at that time and will serve as chair of the and as liaison to the ¾«¶«´«Ã½ .

The slate of board candidates for 2019 will be released in January. Voting will begin on Mar. 11 and close on Apr. 3, 2019. Eligible members will be sent their voting credentials via email between Mar. 11 and Mar. 13, 2019.
