CHICAGO—¾«¶«´«Ã½Publishing eLearning Solutions announces an exciting new workshop in collaboration with the Music Library Association, with Heather Fisher and Michael Duffy. This workshop will last 90 minutes and take place at 2:30pm Eastern/1:30 Central/12:30 Mountain/11:30am Pacific on Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2019.

Librarianship is a stressful profession—in addition to our daily responsibilities, we often feel like tutors and social workers. Many studies and observations have shown that fatigue, stress, and burnout are occurring at higher and higher rates among library staff. The negative effects from burnout and fatigue can impact many aspects of life, including work, interpersonal relationships, and health.

In this new workshop, librarians Heather Fisher and Michael Duffy teach you how to identify the signs of burnout and fatigue—both in yourself and your colleagues, so you can be proactive and take manageable steps to reverse the effects of burnout. You’ll learn time and stress management strategies that are simple and easy to apply to help avoid burnout and to better cope with it when it does occur.

About the Instructors

Heather Fisher is in her third year as the Metadata/Catalog Librarian for Zahnow Library Saginaw Valley State University. In addition to her technical services duties, she is also the liaison librarian to the Music, Literacy Education, and English Language Program departments. Prior to joining the staff at Zahnow Library, she was a youth services librarian for a local public library. She holds a Bachelors in Music from Sam Houston State University, a Masters in Performance from Central Michigan University, a Masters in Musicology from Bowling Green State University, and an MLIS from Wayne State University.

Michael Duffy is Associate Professor and Fine Arts Librarian at Western Michigan University. He has worked as an academic librarian since 2002, holding positions at WMU as well as Northern Illinois University. He is a cover letter and résumé reviewer and career advisor for the Music Library Association. He holds a Master of Library and Information Science degree from Dominican University, a Master of Music degree in musicology from Northwestern University, and a Bachelor of Music degree, magna cum laude, in music education from Western Michigan University.
