New workshop—Prepare for the Future: Tech Strategies You Need to Know

CHICAGO—¾«¶«´«Ã½Publishing eLearning Solutions announces an exciting new workshop, with Jason Griffey. This workshop will last consist of two 90-minute sessions and take place at 2:30pm Eastern/1:30 Central/12:30 Mountain/11:30am Pacific on Wednesday, January 31, 2018 and Wednesday, February 7, 2018.

Join Jason Griffey for a survey of the current state of consumer and emerging technology that libraries and librarians can use. Prepare for coming services, raise your awareness of technology trends and issues, and get a head start on strategies for the next 5 years of technology change. Discussion will be focused on how technology like Augmented Reality/Virtual Reality, Artificial Intelligence, and decentralization will drive new and interesting services for your patrons and how to think about investments to prepare your library for the future.

By participating in this workshop, you’ll learn:

  • Strategies for deciding which technologies to invest in
  • How to think about emerging technologies in terms of patron privacy issues
  • Likely directions for technology and service changes in the next 5 years

About the Instructor

Jason Griffey is a librarian and technologist, and the founder and principal at , a technology consulting and creation firm for libraries, museums, educational institutions, and other nonprofits. Griffey is a fellow at the Berkman Klein Center for Internet & Society at Harvard University and was formerly an associate professor and Head of Library Information Technology at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. Named a Library Journal Mover & Shaker in 2009, Griffey has written and spoken internationally on topics such as the future of technology and libraries, personal electronics in the library, privacy, copyright, and intellectual property. He was a winner of the Knight Foundation News Challenge for Libraries in 2014 for the , an open hardware project designed to provide actionable use metrics for library spaces. Griffey is also the creator and director of the , an open-source portable digital file distribution system.
