Rethinking Library Programming: Transforming Your Approach Workshop

A 90-minute workshop, Thursday, September 28, 2017, 2:30pm Eastern/1:30 Central/12:30 Mountain/11:30am Pacific

As libraries move into a new era, we’re faced with the challenge of balancing the expectations of traditional services and programming while also striving to reach audiences who don’t necessarily see the public library as relevant to their lives. In this workshop, we’ll provide ideas and plans for non-traditional library programs and also discuss how to combat the fear of getting out of library comfort zones. We’ll dispel the notion that certain kinds of programs aren’t library programs as we take into consideration the role that libraries now play in their communities.

By participating in this workshop, you will:

  • Learn how to challenge yourself, think outside the library, and create new experiences at your library for your patrons and staff
  • Learn how to create an action plan, including a timeframe and organization chart for new, large scale programs
  • Gain ideas for seeking new community partnerships
  • Develop the confidence to try new programming and reach new audiences
