CHICAGO —The diverse paths to leadership in the profession are highlighted in a new , available on the ¾«¶«´«Ã½’s YouTube Channel. The video series was developed as part of 2011-2012 ¾«¶«´«Ã½President Molly Raphael’s .

Our libraries and profession will be greatly enhanced by the increasing inclusion of staff from diverse backgrounds,” said Molly Raphael. “This video series provides examples of how people have become involved in ¾«¶«´«Ã½and developed leadership positions. I hope you find these videos inspiring. I hope you find diverse role models. I hope we can see how diverse our profession is and can be by having leaders who come from diverse backgrounds.

The “Empowering Diverse Voices” leadership video series features more than 30 leaders from across the association, including past ¾«¶«´«Ã½presidents, division presidents, round table and state chapter leaders and presidents of affiliate associations.

“Increasing the development of leaders from diverse backgrounds is vital for our profession,” says Loida Garcia-Febo, coordinator for the leadership video series. “These colleagues share their story of becoming leaders in the association and their best advice for future leaders. In all of our careers we have benefited from those individuals who provided a model for leadership and motivated and inspired our own work and efforts. Encouraging enthusiasm and leadership within current and future library professionals is important to ALA.”

is an initiative of 2011-2012 ¾«¶«´«Ã½President Molly Raphael and will feature several elements designed to enhance the leadership development opportunities available to ¾«¶«´«Ã½members and specifically seeks to provide opportunities to diverse members of the Association.
