'Empowering Diverse Voices' webinar shares diverse perspectives on library leadership

CHICAGO — The intersection of diversity and leadership will be the focus of a free webinar, “Perspectives on Leadership,” from 3 p.m. – 4 p.m. CDT on Tuesday June 12, 2012.

Part of ýPresident Molly Raphael’s “” diversity leadership initiative, this free webinar will feature a panel of diverse leaders exploring the implications of diversity on leadership.

“Our libraries and profession will be greatly enhanced by the increasing inclusion of staff from diverse backgrounds,” said Molly Raphael. “This series of webinars, and the other elements of my presidential initiative, seek to expand and enhance leadership development opportunities for our more diverse workforce, ensuring that the library leaders of tomorrow, at all levels and in all types of libraries, are as diverse as communities we serve."

“Perspectives on Leadership” will feature five library leaders—Camila Alire, dean emerita at the University of New Mexico and Colorado State University and past president of the ý; Maribel Castro, high school librarian at Coronado High School and past president of the Texas Library Association; Trevor Dawes, circulation services director at Princeton University Library and 2012-2013 president elect of the Association of College and Research Libraries; Marcellus Turner, city librarian, the Seattle Public Library; and Patty Wong, county librarian/archivist, Yolo County Library—in a conversation moderated by Janice Welburn, dean of the Marquette University Raynor Memorial Libraries. These leaders will share their thoughts on how diversity affects library leadership and the opportunities for diversity in leadership.
