CHICAGO - The Association for Library Collections & Technical Services (ALCTS) announces that Jane Greenberg is the recipient of the 2012 Margaret Mann Citation presented by its Cataloging and Metadata Management Section (CaMMS). The Mann Citation will be presented at the ALCTS Awards Ceremony on June 24, 2012 at the ¾«¶«´«Ã½ Annual Conference in Anaheim, Calif.

The Mann Citation, recognizing outstanding professional achievement in cataloging or classification, includes a $2,000 scholarship donated in the recipient’s honor by OCLC, Inc. to the library school of the winner’s choice. Greenberg has chosen the School of Information and Library Science (SILS) at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill to be the recipient of this year’s scholarship award.

Jane Greenberg is recognized for her outstanding record of publication, her dedication to research and her influence on current and future librarians. Greenberg is a highly sought after author. Her works include the well-received monograph "Knitting the Semantic Web" and her editing of a special issue of the Journal of Library Metadata. In recent years, she has published as author or co-author 16 scholarly articles and 26 presentations covering such diverse topics as automatic metadata creation, metadata best practices, ontology research, the Semantic Web, data repositories and thesauri.

Greenberg is widely recognized for her research. She has been awarded as principle investigator or partner nine grants from the Institute of Museum and Library Services, National Science foundation, and the National Institute of Health.

She has been actively involved in the ¾«¶«´«Ã½ and ALCTS, notably in the areas of Authority Control and Subject Analysis, as well as other professional organizations, including the Dublin Core Metadata Initiative and the American Society for Information Science and Technology.

In 2008 she was awarded the Frederick G. Kilgour Award for Research in Library and Information Technology. She has been cited for her excellence as a teacher and mentor by her peer faculty and her current and past students.

The Margaret Mann Citation Jury is pleased to honor Jane Greenberg for her success in promoting metadata to the profession and her dedication to developing the next generation of catalogers/metadata managers.
