Library Card Sign-Up Month is a national public awareness campaign to emphasize the importance of a library card to a child鈥檚 education. The campaign first started in 1987 as a response to then Secretary of Education, William Bennett, who stated: 鈥淟et鈥檚 have a campaign 鈥 Every child should obtain a library card and use it.鈥
