Lev Mills designed the Coretta Scott King Book Award seal in 1974. Mills, who donated his time and talent to the seal project only, requested that his name should always appear on the seal. He has received world acclaim as an artist. His work has appeared in group and one-man exhibitions in the USA, Great Britain, France, Holland, Sweden, and a seven-month exhibition and lecture-tour to East, West, and North Africa. He retired as a professor at in . His work can be found at the and the in Atlanta and in city municipal buildings, including the atrium of the Atlanta City Hall Annex and a train station.
