Criteria

Nominations, including self-nominations, are welcomed from all interested parties but must pertain to activities taking place in the past two years. Nominations will be judged on the contributions’ quality, impact, and relevance to LHRT or the library history community. The LHRT is particularly interested in recognizing those who have promoted library history in exceptional or new ways or who have reached audiences that have not been engaged previously.

Each nomination must include a brief statement thoroughly explaining the contribution or project and why the nominee is worthy of consideration. It must also include at least two (2) letters of support. Individual nominees must include a CV or resume, while organizational nominees must include a statement indicating the organization’s mission and other background information. Before submitting materials, nominators should contact the Committee Chair (Alea Henle) to learn whether the person or organization has already been nominated. Nominators of the same entity may be asked to collaborate to produce stronger applications and reduce duplicative effort.

The Innovation and Advocacy in Library History Award is a non-monetary award with a printed citation. There is no cash or medal associated with the award.

The Innovation and Advocacy in Library History Award is presented by the Library History Round Table (LHRT) of the ��ý as a “best of year” achievement award that enables the LHRT to acknowledge individuals or organizations that have made recent, substantive contributions to LHRT or to the wider library history community. The intention of the award is to recognize efforts that are ineligible for other LHRT prizes; thus, nominations which emphasize publication of articles, books, dissertations, or essays will not be considered. Membership in LHRT is encouraged but not required.

Criteria

Essays should be organized in a form similar to that of articles published in Information & Culture: A Journal of History, with footnotes, spelling and punctuation conforming to the latest edition of the Chicago Manual of Style. Papers should not exceed thirty-five typewritten, double-spaced pages (plus footnotes and bibliography).

Selection of an awardee will be made by an LHRT committee. Nominations must be made by an LHRT member; a letter of nomination should be made by the next deadline (TBD). The nomination must include the nominee's Curriculum Vitae and at least two (2) letters of support. Nominators of the same individual may be asked to collaborate to produce stronger nominations and to reduce duplicate effort. Nominations should be sent to John M. Budd, Chair of the Distinguished Service in Library History Award Committee.

Notification

Decisions will be made by LHRT's Justin Winsor Prize Committee.

The Distinguished Service in Library History Award is presented by the ��ýLibrary History Round Table (LHRT) and honors the career of a person who has a lifetime of scholarship and service in the field of library history. This non-monetary award is intended to be given to an individual who has a record of contributions; who demonstrates length, breadth, and depth of involvement in library history; and who has had a significant impact on the work of the ��ýLibrary History Round Table or on the library history community at large.

About

This award is being established to honor the memory of two women who worked with endless enthusiasm to make the ideal of citizen access to government information a reality.

Margaret Lane, a pioneer in the establishment and administration of state document depository systems and one of the founders of GODORT, was the author of the seminal work on state documents and her personal charm added to her effectiveness as an advocate for and teacher of government documents. Virginia Saunders was instrumental in the support and continued production of the U.S. Congressional Serial Set and shared her vast knowledge and expertise with documents librarians nationwide for nearly forty years. Both women were leaders in the field and their work has enriched the research community immeasurably.

Eligibility

The award is not restricted to articles in library journals. Only articles are eligible for this award. Book chapters, books, and dissertations are not eligible for this award.
The article must be published (either in print or online) no more than 18 months prior to the due date for nominations.

Criteria

Preference may be given to articles published in library literature and that appeals to a broader audience.

Notification

Awards will be announced as soon as all award recipients have been informed following the ��ýMidwinter meeting. Awards will be presented at the GODORT Reception at the ��ýAnnual conference. Travel expenses for award recipients cannot be assumed by GODORT.

The award will be given annually to an author or shared among collaborative authors of an outstanding research article in which government documents, either published or archival in nature, form a substantial part of the documented research. Preference may be given to articles published in library literature but the award is not restricted to articles in library journals.

Any ��ýmember is eligible for this $500 award, and all methodologies and research topics/questions are eligible for consideration.

Criteria

This award is being jointly presented by The Beta Phi Mu International Honor Society (http://www.beta-phi-mu.org/) and the ��ý’s Library Research Round Table (http://www.ala.org/lrrt/) to recognize excellent research in progress into problems related to the profession of librarianship. Any ��ýmember is eligible for this $500 award, and all methodologies and research topics/questions are eligible for consideration. The criteria to be followed for the selection of an award winner are:
· Importance of the research question or problem (20 points)
· Appropriateness of the methodology used (10 points)
· Effectiveness of the application of the methodology (20 points)
· Addition of the findings to the knowledge and/or praxis in the field of librarianship (20 points)
· Articulation of the conclusions emanating from the study (10 points)
· Clarity and completeness (10 points)
The deadline for submission is March 15, 2015. Submissions must not have been published prior to March 15, 2015. The submissions will be limited to a 2,000-word abstract, excluding the bibliography or reference list, and should be emailed to the contact person below. Please include a title page with title of proposal and author contact information including name, institutional affiliation, mailing address and email address. Individuals may submit only one paper. Jointly authored proposals are acceptable, but all authors must be ��ýmembers, and will split the award of $500.
All submissions that meet the deadline and the criteria will be considered. The proposals will undergo a blind-review process by a joint BPM/LRRT award committee and the winner will be notified by May 1, 2015.
The award will be presented during one of LRRT’s research programs at the ��ýAnnual Conference, San Francisco, CA: June 25-30, 2015.

The submissions will be limited to a 2,000-word abstract, excluding the bibliography or reference list, and should be emailed to the contact person below. Publications include journal articles, books, book chapters, and published proceedings. Submitted publications may be authored by one or more individuals, a group, organization, or committee. Instruction Section publications are not eligible for award consideration. Publications from 2018 and 2019 can be considered for the 2020 award.

Criteria

Publications are judged on the basis of relevance to the field of instruction in academic or research libraries, originality, timeliness, and quality of writing.
Note: The Awards Committee has developed a rubric in an effort to narrow the pool of nominations and to provide some guidance during the committee's selection process. Rubric scores are not the deciding factor for each year's selection. You can view the rubric here.

Electronic submissions are required. Nominations must include a letter supporting the publication and a complete citation of the publication. Whenever possible, an electronic version of the article, book, etc., should also be included.

Eligibility

English-language print or electronic bibliographies in any format in the field of agriculture or a related science published during the two-year period preceding the year in which the award is presented. Bibliographies may be a print or electronic monograph, a completed series viewed as a body of work, or an ongoing print or electronic publication.

Criteria

Bibliographies submitted for award consideration are judged on accuracy, scope, usefulness, format, and special features such as explanatory introductions, annotations, and indexes.

Nominations for the 2021 award are currently being accepted and may be made in the form of a letter. They should point out the reason the bibliography should be considered. A copy of the bibliography should accompany the nomination.

The Oberly Award was established in 1923 in memory of Eunice Rockwood Oberly, librarian of the Bureau of Plant Industry, United States Department of Agriculture from 1908 to 1921. She was the Bureau of Plant Industry's representative to the Congressional Joint Commission on Reclassification of Government Employees and was instrumental in gaining a fairer recognition of library activities. This biennial award is given in odd-numbered years for the best English-language bibliography in the field of agriculture or a related science.

The Justin Winsor Library History Essay Award is presented by the Library History Round Table of the ��ý annually to recognize the best essay written in English on library history. The award is named in honor of the distinguished nineteenth-century librarian, historian, and bibliographer who was also ALA's first president. It consists of a certificate and a $500 cash award, as well as an invitation to have the winner's essay considered for publication in Libraries: Culture, History, and Society.
