Core Event: 2022 Online AvramCamp

CHICAGO—Core is pleased to once again sponsor AvramCamp, an AdaCamp-inspired event that is named in honor of library innovator Henriette D. Avram. This half-day, online event allows women and non-binary technology workers a safe space to explore the common challenges they face, learn strategies for dealing with these obstacles, and discuss specific tools to build confidence. This event will engage the collective expertise of presenters and participants, facilitating enriching conversations and learning opportunities. Everyone, including non-Core members, is encouraged to register and bring their own questions, experiences, and perspectives to the event.

In past years, AvramCamp began by exploring Imposter Syndrome. This year, in the spirit of the unconference model, we’d like to hear from participants on what they'd like AvramCamp to offer as the first workshop or keynote speaker for the day. If you have ideas on workshop topics or speakers, please complete this Google Form.

Registration is $25 for both ��ýand non-��ýmembers. Registration is limited to 60 people, so save your seat soon!

2022 PR Xchange Award Winners Announced

The PR Xchange Committee is delighted to announce the winners of this year's PR Xchange Awards Competition. This year, we have awarded 20 print winners and 24 electronic winners. Congratulations to those libraries! The PR Xchange Committee is charged with coordinating the annual awards competition, under the direction of the Awards and Scholarships Subcommittee of Core, a division of the ��ý (ALA).

More than 195 entries in print and electronic formats were submitted from over 100 institutions, including public, academic, school, state, and special libraries. Entries were evaluated by a jury of 20 virtual judges. Submissions were assessed based on the quality of content, format, design, creativity, and originality. The jury, which included a group of talented marketing professionals, graphic designers, librarians, and visual artists were very impressed by the innovative work submitted by these libraries. Winning entries will be on display at the PR Xchange Event from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 26, 2022, in the Special Events Area of the ��ýExhibits Hall at the ��ýAnnual Conference in Washington, DC. Attendees will have the opportunity to view and take home sample promotional materials from libraries across North America.

Twenty-five libraries selected for Let’s Talk About It: Women’s Suffrage humanities discussion project

CHICAGO — The ��ý (ALA) is pleased to announce 25 libraries selected to participate in Let’s Talk About It (LTAI): Women’s Suffrage, a grant designed to spark conversations about American history and culture through an examination of the women’s suffrage movement.

Representing 23 states, the selected libraries will receive a $1,000 stipend to support programming costs, ten copies of the five theme books, access to programming guides and support materials, virtual training on the LTAI model, a suite of online resources and more. The LTAI: Women’s Suffrage theme was developed by project scholars using the following titles:

The Woman’s Hour: The Great Fight to Win the Vote by Elaine Weiss
Women Making History: The 19th Amendment Book, essays compiled by the National Park Service
Vanguard: How Black Women Broke Barriers, Won the Vote, and Insisted on Equality for All by Martha S. Jones
Ida B. the Queen: The Extraordinary Life and Legacy of Ida B. Wells by Michelle Duster
The Once and Future Witches by Alix E. Harrow

Celebrating its 40th anniversary in 2022, Let’s Talk About It is a reading and discussion program that involves groups of people reading a series of books selected by national project scholars and discussing them in the context of an overarching theme. The format for a Let’s Talk About It program involves a ten-week series. Every two weeks, a discussion group meets with a local humanities scholar to discuss one of the five books in the theme.

CHICAGO — The ��ý (ALA) announced a new grant for libraries designed to spark conversations about American history and culture through an examination of the women’s suffrage movement.

Through Let’s Talk About It (LTAI): Women’s Suffrage, participants will read a series of books curated by humanities scholars and discuss the people and events from this often under-taught part of U.S. history.

Twenty-five libraries will be selected to receive a $1,000 stipend to support programming costs, ten copies of five themed books, access to programming guides and support materials, virtual training on the LTAI model, a suite of online resources and more.

Applications will be accepted from September 1 to December 1, 2021. Library workers can apply online at ala.org/ltai.
